मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-6, verse-31

अवधूतं तथात्मानं मन्यमानो हलायुधः ।
चिन्तयामास सुमहन्मया पापमिदं कृतम् ॥३१॥
31. avadhūtaṃ tathātmānaṃ manyamāno halāyudhaḥ .
cintayāmāsa sumahanmayā pāpamidaṃ kṛtam.
31. avadhūtam tathā ātmānam manyamānaḥ halāyudhaḥ
cintayāmāsa sumahan mayā pāpam idam kṛtam
31. Halāyudha (Balarāma), thus considering his own self (ātman) as insulted, reflected: 'This immense sin has been committed by me.'
