महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-284, verse-6

अभिप्रायमथो ज्ञात्वा महेन्द्रस्य विभावसुः ।
कुण्डलार्थे महाराज सूर्यः कर्णमुपागमत् ॥६॥
6. abhiprāyamatho jñātvā mahendrasya vibhāvasuḥ ,
kuṇḍalārthe mahārāja sūryaḥ karṇamupāgamat.

6. Then, O great king, Vibhāvasu (the sun god), having understood the intention of Mahendra (Indra), approached Karṇa for the sake of his earrings.
