He, Mudgala, the observer of the vow of hospitality (ātithivratī), having firmly established supreme reverence (śraddhā), gave to the hungry, 'mad' guest that which he had acquired through his spiritual austerities (tapas). He was truly steadfast in his vows (dhṛtavrataḥ).
