महाभारतः mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-48, verse-43

कुलस्रोतसि संछन्ने यस्य स्याद्योनिसंकरः ।
संश्रयत्येव तच्छीलं नरोऽल्पमपि वा बहु ॥४३॥

43. If a person's mixed lineage (yonisaṃkara) is concealed within the family stream, that individual (nara) will certainly adopt those characteristics, be they minor or extensive.
