महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-103, verse-36

तस्माद्दीपाः प्रदातव्याः सायं वै गृहमेधिभिः ।
दिव्यं चक्षुरवाप्नोति प्रेत्य दीपप्रदायकः ।
पूर्णचन्द्रप्रतीकाशा दीपदाश्च भवन्त्युत ॥३६॥
36. tasmāddīpāḥ pradātavyāḥ sāyaṁ vai gṛhamedhibhiḥ ,
divyaṁ cakṣuravāpnoti pretya dīpapradāyakaḥ ,
pūrṇacandrapratīkāśā dīpadāśca bhavantyuta.
36. tasmāt dīpāḥ pradātavyāḥ sāyam vai
gṛhamedhibhiḥ divyam cakṣuḥ avāpnoti
pretya dīpapradāyakaḥ
pūrṇacandrapratīkāśāḥ dīpadāḥ ca bhavanti uta
36. Therefore, lamps should certainly be offered in the evening by householders. One who offers lamps attains divine vision after death. And indeed, these lamp-givers become radiant like the full moon.
