इह आत्मा स्वकृतैः अधस् तिर्यक् गतिम् च एव,
स्वर्गे परां गतिम् च एव प्राप्नोति; प्राज्ञस्य इतरस्य च

Here in this world, the self (ātman), through its own actions (karma), attains a downward or animal existence, and also the supreme state in heaven; this applies to both the wise and the ignorant.
