महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-11, chapter-1, verse-18

नूनं ह्यपकृतं किंचिन्मया पूर्वेषु जन्मसु ।
येन मां दुःखभागेषु धाता कर्मसु युक्तवान् ॥१८॥
18. nūnaṁ hyapakṛtaṁ kiṁcinmayā pūrveṣu janmasu ,
yena māṁ duḥkhabhāgeṣu dhātā karmasu yuktavān.
18. nūnam hi apakṛtam kiṃcit mayā pūrveṣu janmasu
yena mām duḥkhabhāgeṣu dhātā karmasu yuktavān
18. nūnam hi mayā pūrveṣu janmasu kiṃcit apakṛtam
yena dhātā mām duḥkhabhāgeṣu karmasu yuktavān
18. Surely, I must have committed some wrong in previous lives (janmasu), by which Providence (dhātā) has engaged me in sorrowful circumstances (karmasu).
