महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-181, verse-19

वैशंपायन उवाच ।
तमेवंवादिनं तत्र फल्गुनः प्रत्यभाषत ।
नास्मि कर्ण धनुर्वेदो नास्मि रामः प्रतापवान् ।
ब्राह्मणोऽस्मि युधां श्रेष्ठः सर्वशस्त्रभृतां वरः ॥१९॥
19. vaiśaṁpāyana uvāca ,
tamevaṁvādinaṁ tatra phalgunaḥ pratyabhāṣata ,
nāsmi karṇa dhanurvedo nāsmi rāmaḥ pratāpavān ,
brāhmaṇo'smi yudhāṁ śreṣṭhaḥ sarvaśastrabhṛtāṁ varaḥ.
19. vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca tam evaṃvādinaṃ tatra
phalgunaḥ pratyabhāṣata na asmi karṇa
dhanurvedaḥ na asmi rāmaḥ pratāpavān brāhmaṇaḥ
asmi yudhāṃ śreṣṭhaḥ sarvaśastrabṛtāṃ varaḥ
19. Vaiśampāyana said, "There, Arjuna (Phalguna) replied to Karna, who was speaking thus: 'O Karna, I am neither a master of archery nor the mighty Rama. I am a Brahmin, the best among warriors, and the foremost among all who bear weapons.'"
