वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-5, chapter-9, verse-39

मनो हि हेतुः सर्वेषामिन्द्रियाणां प्रवर्तते ।
शुभाशुभास्ववस्थासु तच्च मे सुव्यवस्थितम् ॥३९॥
39. mano hi hetuḥ sarveṣāmindriyāṇāṃ pravartate ,
śubhāśubhāsvavasthāsu tacca me suvyavasthitam.

39. Indeed, the mind is the cause that directs all the senses in both auspicious and inauspicious circumstances, and that very mind (manas) of mine is well-controlled.
