मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-125, verse-23

तातेन मोक्षितो बद्धो न स्ववीर्यादहं यतः ।
ततः कियत्पौरुषं मे पुरुषैः पाल्यते मही ॥२३॥
23. tātena mokṣito baddho na svavīryādahaṃ yataḥ .
tataḥ kiyatpauruṣaṃ me puruṣaiḥ pālyate mahī.
23. tātena mokṣitaḥ baddhaḥ na svavīryāt aham yataḥ
tataḥ kiyat pauruṣam me puruṣaiḥ pālyate mahī
23. Since I, when bound, was freed by my father (tāta) and not by my own power (vīrya), what manliness (puruṣa) do I then possess? The earth (mahī) is protected by men (puruṣa).
