महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-259, verse-18

उपवासरतिर्धीमान्सदा जप्यपरायणः ।
तमेव कालमातिष्ठत्तीव्रं तप उदारधीः ॥१८॥
18. upavāsaratirdhīmānsadā japyaparāyaṇaḥ ,
tameva kālamātiṣṭhattīvraṁ tapa udāradhīḥ.

18. The intelligent Vibhīṣaṇa was fond of fasting and always devoted to chanting. The noble-minded one undertook severe asceticism (tapas) for that very same period.
