महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-55, verse-27

निदर्शनार्थं तपसो धर्मस्य च नराधिप ।
तत्र यासीत्स्पृहा राजंस्तच्चापि विदितं मम ॥२७॥
27. nidarśanārthaṁ tapaso dharmasya ca narādhipa ,
tatra yāsītspṛhā rājaṁstaccāpi viditaṁ mama.

tatra yā āsīt spṛhā rājan tat ca api viditam mama
27. narādhipa rājan tapasaḥ dharmasya ca nidarśanārtham

27. O Lord of Men, O King, the desire (spṛhā) you harbored there for asceticism (tapas) and for natural law (dharma) was for the sake of providing an example. That, too, is known to me.
