महाभारतः mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-78, verse-3

विकर्मस्थाश्च नोपेक्ष्या विप्रा राज्ञा कथंचन ।
इति राज्ञां पुरावृत्तमभिजल्पन्ति साधवः ॥३॥

iti rājñāṁ purāvṛttamabhijalpanti sādhavaḥ.

3. And Brahmins who are engaged in improper activities (vikarma) should by no means be neglected by the king. The righteous (sādhavaḥ) declare this to be the ancient custom (purāvṛtta) of kings.
