महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-218, verse-11

शक्र उवाच ।
कथं त्वया बलिस्त्यक्तः किमर्थं वा शिखण्डिनि ।
कथं च मां न जह्यास्त्वं तन्मे ब्रूहि शुचिस्मिते ॥११॥
11. śakra uvāca ,
kathaṁ tvayā balistyaktaḥ kimarthaṁ vā śikhaṇḍini ,
kathaṁ ca māṁ na jahyāstvaṁ tanme brūhi śucismite.
11. śakra uvāca katham tvayā baliḥ tyaktaḥ kim artham vā
śikhaṇḍini katham ca mām na jahyāḥ tvam tat me brūhi śucismite
11. śakra uvāca śikhaṇḍini baliḥ tvayā katham vā kim artham
tyaktaḥ ca tvam mām katham na jahyāḥ tat me brūhi śucismite
11. Indra said: "O Śikhaṇḍinī, how or why was Bali abandoned by you? And how is it that you would not abandon me? Tell me that, O pure-smiling one."
