सर्गप्रलयकर्तारमव्यक्तं ब्रह्म शाश्वतम् ।
तदिदं ब्रह्म वार्ष्णेयमितिहासं शृणुष्व मे ॥९॥

That which the knowers of the Vedas understand as the eternal (sanātana) cosmic person (puruṣa), Vishnu, who is the creator and destroyer of all existence, the unmanifest, the everlasting Absolute (Brahman) – this very Absolute (Brahman), O Vārṣṇeya, listen to this epic account (itihāsa) from me.
