महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-73, verse-12

वैशंपायन उवाच ।
समुच्छ्रयं देवयानीं गतां सक्तां च वाससि ।
शर्मिष्ठा प्राक्षिपत्कूपे ततः स्वपुरमाव्रजत् ॥१२॥
12. vaiśaṁpāyana uvāca ,
samucchrayaṁ devayānīṁ gatāṁ saktāṁ ca vāsasi ,
śarmiṣṭhā prākṣipatkūpe tataḥ svapuramāvrajat.
12. vaiśampāyanaḥ uvāca samucchrayam devayānīm gatām saktām
ca vāsasi śarmiṣṭhā prākṣipat kūpe tataḥ svapuram āvrajat
12. Vaiśampāyana said: Sharmishtha threw Devayani, who had attained a high position and was entangled in her garment, into a well, and then returned to her own city.
