महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-27, verse-12

जुहुवुस्ते सुतपसो विधिवज्जातवेदसम् ।
मन्त्रैरुच्चावचैर्विप्रा येन कामेन तच्छृणु ॥१२॥
12. juhuvuste sutapaso vidhivajjātavedasam ,
mantrairuccāvacairviprā yena kāmena tacchṛṇu.
12. juhuvuḥ te sutapasaḥ vidhivat jātavedasam
mantraiḥ uccāvacaiḥ viprāḥ yena kāmena tat śṛṇu
12. Those brahmins, possessing great austerities, offered sacrifices to Agni, the fire-god, according to the prescribed rites, with various mantras. Hear now for what purpose they did this.
