Arjuna asked: O Lord of gods, from what does a latent impression (vāsanā) arise, and how is it destroyed?
The Blessed Lord said: The notion of self in the non-self arises from ignorance and delusion. Through the knowledge of the self (ātman) and great enlightenment, this latent impression (vāsanā) attains dissolution.
