The Blessed Lord said: For the sake of ultimate well-being (śreyas) in this world, the destruction of latent impressions (vāsanā) is essential. These latent impressions are like a dream; they become potent due to long-standing habit and are the cause of the delusion of the cycle of rebirth (saṃsāra).
