वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-7, chapter-9, verse-36

सत्यं ते प्रतिजानामि तुल्यो भ्रात्राधिको ऽपि वा ।
भविष्याम्यचिरान्मातः संतापं त्यज हृद्गतम् ॥३६॥
36. satyaṃ te pratijānāmi tulyo bhrātrādhiko'pi vā ,
bhaviṣyāmyacirānmātaḥ saṃtāpaṃ tyaja hṛdgatam.
36. satyam te pratijānāmi tulyaḥ bhrātrā adhikaḥ api
vā bhaviṣyāmi acirāt mātaḥ saṃtāpam tyaja hṛdgatam
36. mātaḥ te satyam pratijānāmi acirāt bhrātrā tulyaḥ
adhikaḥ api vā bhaviṣyāmi hṛdgatam saṃtāpam tyaja
36. O mother, I truly promise you that I shall soon become equal to my brother, or even superior to him. Abandon the sorrow held within your heart.
