न भूम्या कार्यमस्माकं न हि शक्ताः स्म पालने ।
रताः स्वाध्यायकरणे वयं नित्यं हि भूमिप ।
निष्क्रयं किं चिदेवेह प्रयच्छतु भवानिति ॥४०॥

40. na bhūmyā kāryamasmākaṃ na hi śaktāḥ sma pālane ,
ratāḥ svādhyāyakaraṇe vayaṃ nityaṃ hi bhūmipa ,
niṣkrayaṃ kiṃ cideveha prayacchatu bhavāniti.

40. na bhūmyā kāryam asmākam na hi śaktāḥ

kim cit eva iha prayacchatu bhavān iti

40. bhūmipa! asmākam bhūmyā kāryam na,
hi vayam pālane śaktāḥ na sma.
hi nityam vayam svādhyāyakaraṇe ratāḥ.
iti bhavān iha kim cit eva niṣkrayam prayacchatu

40. We have no need for land, O King, for we are not capable of protecting it. Indeed, we are constantly devoted to self-study. Therefore, let your honor give us some compensation here.
