वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-1, chapter-13, verse-24

नियुक्तास्तत्र पशवस्तत्तदुद्दिश्य दैवतम् ।
उरगाः पक्षिणश्चैव यथाशास्त्रं प्रचोदिताः ।
शामित्रे तु हयस्तत्र तथा जल चराश्च ये ॥२४॥
24. niyuktāstatra paśavastattaduddiśya daivatam ,
uragāḥ pakṣiṇaścaiva yathāśāstraṃ pracoditāḥ ,
śāmitre tu hayastatra tathā jala carāśca ye.

24. There, animals were offered, each intending a specific deity. Serpents and birds were also duly offered according to the scriptures (yathāśāstraṃ). And there, in the sacrificial slaughter place (śāmitra), was the horse, as were all aquatic creatures.
