वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-1, chapter-13, verse-30

धूमगन्धं वपायास्तु जिघ्रति स्म नराधिपः ।
यथाकालं यथान्यायं निर्णुदन्पापमात्मनः ॥३०॥
30. dhūmagandhaṃ vapāyāstu jighrati sma narādhipaḥ ,
yathākālaṃ yathānyāyaṃ nirṇudanpāpamātmanaḥ.

yathākālam yathānyāyam nirṇudan pāpam ātmanaḥ

30. The king would smell the smoke-fragrance of the omentum at the appropriate time and in accordance with the prescribed rules, thereby dispelling the sin of his self (ātman).
