मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-111, verse-36

प्रमतिरुवाच ।
एवमस्तु भवान्वैश्यः क्षत्रियः क्षतरक्षणात् ।
क्षत्रियैर्धार्यते शस्त्रं नार्त्तशब्दो भवेदिति ॥३६॥
36. pramatiruvāca .
evamastu bhavānvaiśyaḥ kṣatriyaḥ kṣatarakṣaṇāt .
kṣatriyairdhāryate śastraṃ nārttaśabdo bhavediti.
36. pramatiḥ uvāca | evam astu bhavān
vaiśyaḥ kṣatriyaḥ kṣata-rakṣaṇāt
| kṣatriyaiḥ dhāryate
śastram na ārtta-śabdaḥ bhavet iti
36. Pramati said: 'So be it. You are a vaiśya (merchant class), and a kṣatriya (warrior class) due to protecting the injured. Kṣatriyas bear arms so that no cry of distress may arise.'
