महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-9, chapter-40, verse-16

मोक्षार्थमकरोद्यत्नं ब्राह्मणैः सहितः पुरा ।
अथासौ पार्थिवः खिन्नस्ते च विप्रास्तदा नृप ॥१६॥
16. mokṣārthamakarodyatnaṁ brāhmaṇaiḥ sahitaḥ purā ,
athāsau pārthivaḥ khinnaste ca viprāstadā nṛpa.

atha asau pārthivaḥ khinnaḥ te ca viprāḥ tadā nṛpa
16. nṛpa purā saḥ brāhmaṇaiḥ sahitaḥ mokṣaartham yatnam
akarot atha asau pārthivaḥ khinnaḥ ca te viprāḥ tadā
16. Formerly, he, accompanied by Brahmins, made an effort towards final liberation (mokṣa). But then, O king (nṛpa), that ruler (pārthiva) became dejected, and so did those Brahmins (vipra).
