महाभारतः mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-66, verse-26

ये धर्मकुशला लोके धर्मं कुर्वन्ति साधवः ।
पालिता यस्य विषये पादोंऽशस्तस्य भूपतेः ॥२६॥

26. Those virtuous individuals (sādhavaḥ) in the world who diligently follow the natural law (dharma)—if they are protected in a king's domain—then a fourth share of the merit (dharma) accrues to that ruler (bhūpateḥ).
