महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-226, verse-6

गृहस्थस्त्वेव सर्वेषां चतुर्णां मूलमुच्यते ।
तत्र पक्वकषायो हि दान्तः सर्वत्र सिध्यति ॥६॥
6. gṛhasthastveva sarveṣāṁ caturṇāṁ mūlamucyate ,
tatra pakvakaṣāyo hi dāntaḥ sarvatra sidhyati.
6. gṛhasthaḥ tu eva sarveṣām caturṇām mūlam ucyate
tatra pakvakaṣāyaḥ hi dāntaḥ sarvatra sidhyati
6. tu eva gṛhasthaḥ sarveṣām caturṇām mūlam ucyate.
tatra hi pakvakaṣāyaḥ dāntaḥ sarvatra sidhyati.
6. However, the householder (gṛhastha) is indeed declared to be the foundation (mūla) of all four (stages of life). In that stage, one whose impurities have been matured (and thus diminished) and who is self-controlled, certainly achieves success in all aspects.
