भूतग्रामे नियुक्तं यत्तदेतत्कीर्तितं मया ।
ब्राह्मणस्य तु यत्कृत्यं तत्ते वक्ष्यामि पृच्छते ॥१॥

Vyasa said: What was appointed in the realm of beings (bhūtagrāma)—that has been described by me. Now, what is the duty of a Brahmin—that I shall tell to you, who are asking.
