योगवासिष्ठः       yogavāsiṣṭhaḥ - book-7, chapter-118, verse-14

आसन्नमद्गुबकगृध्रबिडालसर्पदृष्ट्या भयं भवति यत्सलिलाशयानाम् ।
तस्याग्रतस्तृणमिवाशनिपातभङ्गो जातिस्मरेण विदुषोक्तमदः पुरा मे ॥ १४ ॥

14. āsanna-madgu-baka-gṛdhra-biḍāla-sarpa-dṛṣṭyā
bhayam bhavati yat salila-āśayānām |
tasya agrataḥ tṛṇam iva aśani-pāta-bhaṅgaḥ
jāti-smareṇa viduṣā uktam adaḥ purā me ||
14. yat āsanna-madgu-baka-gṛdhra-biḍāla-sarpa-dṛṣṭyā salila-āśayānām bhayam bhavati,
tasya agrataḥ tṛṇam iva aśani-pāta-bhaṅgaḥ.
adaḥ purā jāti-smareṇa viduṣā me uktam.
14. The fear that aquatic creatures (salilāśaya) experience from the nearby sight of diving birds, cranes, vultures, cats, and snakes—that fear, when considering it, is like the shattering impact of a lightning bolt on a blade of grass. A wise person (viduṣā) who remembered past lives (jātismara), once told me this.
