योगवासिष्ठः       yogavāsiṣṭhaḥ - book-6, chapter-54, verse-9

न हृष्यति सुखैरात्मा दुःखैर्ग्लायति नोऽर्जुन ।
दृश्यदृक्वेतनात्मापि शरीरान्तर्गतोऽपि सन् ॥ ९ ॥
na hṛṣyati sukhairātmā duḥkhairglāyati no'rjuna ,
dṛśyadṛkvetanātmāpi śarīrāntargato'pi san 9
9. na hṛṣyati sukhaiḥ ātmā duḥkhaiḥ glāyati na u arjuna
dṛśyadṛkcetanātmā api śarīrāntargataḥ api san
9. arjuna,
ātmā sukhaiḥ na hṛṣyati,
duḥkhaiḥ na u glāyati.
dṛśyadṛkcetanātmā api,
śarīrāntargataḥ api san (ayam ātmā evaṁ na karoti).
9. The self (ātman), O Arjuna, does not rejoice in happiness nor does it grieve in sorrow. Even though it is the conscious seer of all that is perceived, and though it resides within the body, it remains unaffected.
