महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-76, verse-11

प्रजाः सृजेति व्यादिष्टः पूर्वं दक्षः स्वयंभुवा ।
असृजद्वृत्तिमेवाग्रे प्रजानां हितकाम्यया ॥११॥
11. prajāḥ sṛjeti vyādiṣṭaḥ pūrvaṁ dakṣaḥ svayaṁbhuvā ,
asṛjadvṛttimevāgre prajānāṁ hitakāmyayā.
11. prajāḥ sṛja iti vyādiṣṭaḥ pūrvam dakṣaḥ svayambhuvā
asṛjat vṛttim eva agre prajānām hitakāmyayā
11. svayambhuvā dakṣaḥ pūrvam prajāḥ sṛja iti vyādiṣṭaḥ
prajānām hitakāmyayā agre eva vṛttim asṛjat
11. "Create beings!" — thus Dakṣa was instructed previously by the self-born (svayambhū). For the welfare of these beings (prajā), he first created their means of livelihood (vṛtti).
