महाभारतः mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-81, verse-25

नैव द्वौ न त्रयः कार्या न मृष्येरन्परस्परम् ।
एकार्थादेव भूतानां भेदो भवति सर्वदा ॥२५॥

25. Division among beings always arises simply from having the same objective, so neither two nor three should be appointed, for they would never tolerate one another.
