महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-216, verse-2

स च तच्चिन्तितं ज्ञात्वा दर्शयामास पावकम् ।
तमब्रवीद्धूमकेतुः प्रतिपूज्य जलेश्वरम् ।
चतुर्थं लोकपालानां रक्षितारं महेश्वरम् ॥२॥
2. sa ca taccintitaṁ jñātvā darśayāmāsa pāvakam ,
tamabravīddhūmaketuḥ pratipūjya jaleśvaram ,
caturthaṁ lokapālānāṁ rakṣitāraṁ maheśvaram.

pāvakam tam abravīt dhūmaketuḥ
pratipūjya jaleśvaram caturtham
lokapālānām rakṣitāram maheśvaram
2. And Varuṇa, knowing Agni's thoughts, revealed himself to Agni. Having respectfully honored the lord of waters (jaleśvara)—who is the fourth among the world-protectors (lokapāla) and a great lord (maheśvara)—Dhūmaketu (Agni) then spoke to him.
