महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-206, verse-27

परित्राणं च कर्तव्यमार्तानां पृथुलोचन ।
कृत्वा मम परित्राणं तव धर्मो न लुप्यते ॥२७॥
27. paritrāṇaṁ ca kartavyamārtānāṁ pṛthulocana ,
kṛtvā mama paritrāṇaṁ tava dharmo na lupyate.
27. paritrāṇam ca kartavyam ārtānām pṛthulocana
kṛtvā mama paritrāṇam tava dharmaḥ na lupyate
27. And protection (paritrāṇa) must be afforded to the distressed, O broad-eyed one. By undertaking this act of protection, your natural law (dharma) will not be violated.
