महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-112, verse-20

पतिं विना मृतं श्रेयो नार्याः क्षत्रियपुंगव ।
त्वद्गतिं गन्तुमिच्छामि प्रसीदस्व नयस्व माम् ॥२०॥
20. patiṁ vinā mṛtaṁ śreyo nāryāḥ kṣatriyapuṁgava ,
tvadgatiṁ gantumicchāmi prasīdasva nayasva mām.
20. patim vinā mṛtam śreyaḥ nāryāḥ kṣatriyapuṃgava
tvatgatim gantum icchāmi prasīdasva nayasva mām
20. O chief among warriors (kṣatriya), for a woman, death without her husband is preferable. I wish to attain your destiny. Please be gracious and lead me (with you).
