This dream (svapna) state, which arises from a sequence of causes and effects, is merely an appearance within consciousness. Similarly, the so-called waking state (jāgrat) is also the intrinsic nature (svabhāva) of the imperishable (ahata). Therefore, (the wise) understand that the entire supreme reality is tranquil (śānta).
