वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-2, chapter-57, verse-11

उपास्यहि रसान्भौमांस्तप्त्वा च जगदंशुभिः ।
परेताचरितां भीमां रविराविशते दिशम् ॥११॥
11. upāsyahi rasānbhaumāṃstaptvā ca jagadaṃśubhiḥ ,
paretācaritāṃ bhīmāṃ ravirāviśate diśam.

| preta ācaritām bhīmām raviḥ āviśate diśam

11. Having absorbed the earthly moisture and scorched the world with its rays, the sun then enters the terrifying southern direction, which is frequented by spirits of the dead.
