मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-32, verse-27

श्रद्धया परया दत्तं पितॄणां नामगोत्रतः ।
यदाहारास्तु ते जातास्तदाहारत्वमेति तत् ॥२७॥
27. śraddhayā parayā dattaṃ pitṝṇāṃ nāmagotrataḥ .
yadāhārāstu te jātāstadāhāratvameti tat.
27. śraddhayā parayā dattam pitṝṇām nāmagotrataḥ
yat āhārāḥ tu te jātāḥ tat āhāratvam eti tat
27. That which is offered with supreme faith (śraddhā), by uttering the names and lineage of the ancestors (pitṛ), transforms into the very food that those ancestors have become in their current existence.
