मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-32, verse-1

मदालसोवाच ।
अतः परं शृणुष्वेमं पुत्र भक्त्या यदाहृतम् ।
पितॄणां प्रीतये यद्वा वर्ज्यं वा प्रीतिकारकम् ॥१॥
1. madālasovāca .
ataḥ paraṃ śṛṇuṣvemaṃ putra bhaktyā yadāhṛtam .
pitṝṇāṃ prītaye yadvā varjyaṃ vā prītikārakam.
1. madālasā uvāca ataḥ param śṛṇuṣva imam putra bhaktyā yat
āhṛtam pitṝṇām prītaye yat vā varjyam vā prītikārakam
1. Madālasā said: 'My son, now listen attentively and with devotion (bhakti) to this [teaching] about what is offered for the ancestors' satisfaction, and also what should be avoided or what brings them joy.'
