मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-122, verse-2

पुत्राहमभ्यनुज्ञाता तव पित्रा महात्मना ।
उपवासं करिष्यामि दुष्करोऽयं किमिच्छकः ॥२॥
2. putrāhamabhyanujñātā tava pitrā mahātmanā .
upavāsaṃ kariṣyāmi duṣkaro'yaṃ kimicchakaḥ.
2. putra aham abhyanujñātā tava pitrā mahātmanā
upavāsam kariṣyāmi duṣkaraḥ ayam kim icchakaḥ
2. Son, I have been permitted by your great-souled father. I will undertake a difficult fast (upavāsa); what is your wish regarding this?
