मार्कण्डेय उवाच ।
एतस्मिन्नन्तरे शब्दं शुश्राव जगतीपतिः ।
पुरोहितस्य वीराया गदतो ह्यर्थिनं प्रति ॥१६॥

etasminnantare śabdaṃ śuśrāva jagatīpatiḥ .
purohitasya vīrāyā gadato hyarthinaṃ prati.

Mārkaṇḍeya said: In the meantime, the king heard the voice of the priest, and of Vīrā, as he (the priest) was speaking to a petitioner.
