महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-8, chapter-60, verse-14

अत्रान्तरे सुमहत्सूतपुत्रश्चक्रे युद्धं सोमकान्संप्रमृद्नन् ।
रथाश्वमातङ्गगणाञ्जघान प्रच्छादयामास दिशः शरैश्च ॥१४॥
14. atrāntare sumahatsūtaputra;ścakre yuddhaṁ somakānsaṁpramṛdnan ,
rathāśvamātaṅgagaṇāñjaghāna; pracchādayāmāsa diśaḥ śaraiśca.

14. In the interim, the son of Sūta (Karṇa) engaged in a very intense battle, utterly crushing the Somakas. He destroyed hosts of chariots, horses, and elephants, and moreover, completely obscured the directions with his arrows.
