महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-5, chapter-179, verse-28

ततः सा राममभ्येत्य जननी मे महानदी ।
मदर्थं तमृषिं देवी क्षमयामास भार्गवम् ।
भीष्मेण सह मा योत्सीः शिष्येणेति वचोऽब्रवीत् ॥२८॥
28. tataḥ sā rāmamabhyetya jananī me mahānadī ,
madarthaṁ tamṛṣiṁ devī kṣamayāmāsa bhārgavam ,
bhīṣmeṇa saha mā yotsīḥ śiṣyeṇeti vaco'bravīt.
28. tataḥ sā rāmam abhyetya jananī me
mahānadī madartham tam ṛṣim devī
kṣamayāmāsa bhārgavam bhīṣmeṇa saha
mā yotsīḥ śiṣyeṇa iti vacaḥ abravīt
28. tataḥ sā me jananī mahānadī devī,
madartham rāmam bhārgavam tam ṛṣim abhyetya kṣamayām āsa.
"śiṣyeṇa bhīṣmeṇa saha mā yotsīḥ!" iti vacaḥ abravīt
28. Then my mother, the great river (Gangā), approached that sage Bhārgava (Paraśurāma) and, for my sake, appeased him. The goddess (Gangā) spoke, saying, 'Do not fight with Bhīṣma, your own disciple!'
