A woman's nature (strīsvabhāvaḥ) is fickle (calaḥ) in the world (loke), and my fault (mama doṣaḥ) is dreadful (dāruṇaḥ). Even if it is so (syāt evam api), she, helpless (vivaśā) and deprived of affection (gatasauhṛdā), might indeed do that. Distressed (saṃvignā) by my sorrow (mama śokena) and from despair (nairāśyāt), the slender-waisted (tanumadhyamā) one...
