महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-153, verse-3

पपात महती चोल्का सनिर्घाता महाप्रभा ।
निष्प्रभश्चाभवत्सूर्यश्छन्नरश्मिस्तमोवृतः ॥३॥
3. papāta mahatī colkā sanirghātā mahāprabhā ,
niṣprabhaścābhavatsūryaśchannaraśmistamovṛtaḥ.
3. papāta mahatī ca ulkā sanirghātā mahāprabhā
niṣprabhaḥ ca abhavat sūryaḥ channaraśmiḥ tamovṛtaḥ
3. And a great, very bright meteor (ulkā) fell with a thunderclap (sanirghātā). The sun (sūrya) also became devoid of luster, its rays hidden and enveloped in darkness.
