महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-14, chapter-76, verse-18

शशश्चाशु विनिर्भिद्य मण्डलं शशिनोऽपतत् ।
विपरीतस्तदा राजंस्तस्मिन्नुत्पातलक्षणे ॥१८॥
18. śaśaścāśu vinirbhidya maṇḍalaṁ śaśino'patat ,
viparītastadā rājaṁstasminnutpātalakṣaṇe.

viparītaḥ tadā rājan tasmin utpātalakṣaṇe
18. rājan tadā śaśaḥ ca āśu śaśinaḥ maṇḍalam
vinirbhidya apatat tasmin utpātalakṣaṇe viparītaḥ
18. O king, then a hare quickly pierced the moon's orb and fell. At that time, in that ominous sign, everything appeared contrary or inverted.
