महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-8, chapter-16, verse-36

प्रहता हन्यमानाश्च पतिताश्चैव सर्वशः ।
अश्वारोहाः समासाद्य त्वरिताः पत्तिभिर्हताः ।
सादिभिः पत्तिसंघाश्च निहता युधि शेरते ॥३६॥
36. prahatā hanyamānāśca patitāścaiva sarvaśaḥ ,
aśvārohāḥ samāsādya tvaritāḥ pattibhirhatāḥ ,
sādibhiḥ pattisaṁghāśca nihatā yudhi śerate.

36. Everywhere, some were struck down, others were being killed, and still others had already fallen. Swift horsemen, having been attacked, were slain by the infantry. And groups of foot-soldiers, struck down by the cavalry, lay dead on the battlefield.
