महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-7, chapter-138, verse-27

सर्वेषु सैन्येषु पदातिसंघा व्यामिश्रिता हस्तिरथाश्ववृन्दैः ।
मध्ये तथान्ये ज्वलिताग्निहस्ता व्यदीपयन्पाण्डुसुतस्य सेनाम् ॥२७॥
27. sarveṣu sainyeṣu padātisaṁghā; vyāmiśritā hastirathāśvavṛndaiḥ ,
madhye tathānye jvalitāgnihastā; vyadīpayanpāṇḍusutasya senām.

27. Throughout all the armies, groups of foot soldiers were mingled with masses of elephants, chariots, and horses. Additionally, other men positioned in the middle, carrying flaming fires in their hands, illuminated the army of the son of Pāṇḍu.
