महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-6, chapter-4, verse-16

व्यास उवाच ।
प्रसन्नभाः पावक ऊर्ध्वरश्मिः प्रदक्षिणावर्तशिखो विधूमः ।
पुण्या गन्धाश्चाहुतीनां प्रवान्ति जयस्यैतद्भाविनो रूपमाहुः ॥१६॥
16. vyāsa uvāca ,
prasannabhāḥ pāvaka ūrdhvaraśmiḥ; pradakṣiṇāvartaśikho vidhūmaḥ ,
puṇyā gandhāścāhutīnāṁ pravānti; jayasyaitadbhāvino rūpamāhuḥ.

16. Vyasa said: When the fire burns with clear splendor, its flames rising upwards, swirling clockwise, and without smoke, and when auspicious fragrances from the offerings spread forth, they declare this to be the sign of impending victory.
