महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-99, verse-26

अतीतानागते चोभे पितृवंशं च भारत ।
तारयेद्वृक्षरोपी च तस्माद्वृक्षान्प्ररोपयेत् ॥२६॥
26. atītānāgate cobhe pitṛvaṁśaṁ ca bhārata ,
tārayedvṛkṣaropī ca tasmādvṛkṣānpraropayet.

26. O Bhārata, a tree-planter saves both the past and future generations, as well as the lineage of ancestors (pitṛvaṃśa). Therefore, one should plant trees.
